Clients Showing Interest in Biopolymer Drilling Fluids

Posted on

DTD pioneered the use of biodegradable, organic polymer drilling fluids in horizontal drilling for environmental projects. We use biopolymer fluids almost exclusively, typically only using bentonite for borings that don’t require well screens or communication with the surrounding ground. Although biopolymer muds are more costly, require a bit more care in use, more attention to details like cleaning out the bore regularly, and sometimes a bit more time, the investment is well worth it in the improved well performance. Our consulting clientele seems to be picking up on this, too. One of the most frequently downloaded articles from our website at Environmental Expert is our article, “Why Bentonite Hurts Well Production.”

All DTD wells are installed using biodegradable biopolymer drilling fluids. Within the past couple of months DTD has installed multiple long wells wells, two 1,100 foot wells, a  1,300 foot well, and two 1800 foot wells – all with biopolymer fluids.

DTD is owned and operated by professional environmental scientists, geologists, and hydrogeologists, with years of environmental consulting experience. We are dedicated to installing wells that are optimized to serve their purpose of remediation. We selected biopolymers as our drilling fluids of choice for these wells not because these muds are easy to work with or inexpensive – they are neither. But they are the best option for installing wells that can be fully developed and prepared for the task of remediating a contaminated site.
