In early September, 2012, DTD completed the installation of a short horizontal remediation well south of Pittsburgh, PA. This dual-phase extraction well was installed beneath a repurposed industrial facility. The site now is occupied by corporate offices, but in its earlier life, housed an industrial facility… and more importantly, its legacy is a contaminant plume directly under the building.
Rig set up to drill under building
Instead of tearing down the building or shutting down the offices temporarily, the consultant specified a blind horizontal well. The well was drilled and installed in one day, with no closure of the office activities. The only disturbance was the presence of the locating technician walking through the area. The well will function as a dual-phase extraction well.
